ICT Policy and Regulation in Africa

unceaThere are several multilateral organizations that have been active in promoting and providing governments with technical and capacity building assistance.  UNECA has been particularly active in providing support. UNECA calls these ICT plans National Information and Communication Infrastructure (NICI) policies and plans.

According to the the UN Economic Commision for Africa (UNECA), as of June 2008, there are about 38 countries with ICT policies, 8 in the process of making one and 7 with no policy development launched yet.

UNECA has been particularly active in the promotion of and providing support for the development of national ICT policies. UNECA calls these ICT plans National Information and Communication Infrastructure (NICI) policies and plans.
