Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) is a Kenya-based electric power generation company. Its core business is to develop, manage and operate power generation plants to supply electric power to the Kenyan market. The Company produces 80% of the electricity consumed in Kenya. KenGen uses various sources to generate electricity, including hydro, thermal, geothermal and wind. It has 14 hydro power stations, three thermal plants, two geothermal plants, a wind farm comprising two wind turbines and two off grid stations. The Company also offers technical services, as well as consultancy services to both local and international organizations in the areas of geology, geochemistry, environment and geophysics. It also provides reservoir engineering and drilling services, and conducts surveys. KenGen generates and sells electricity to the authorized distributor, Kenya Power and Lighting Company Limited (KPLC).
